Social Mission: A Woman’s Place
At Fig® we believe in the power of a community that works together to identify needs and find solutions—one that creates community connections and is passionate about helping its neighbors. We believe in the mission of A Woman’s Place, our 2015 Social Mission Partner. Please consider giving to them with your dollars and your time this year.
On the road to flourishing, A Woman’s Place (AWP) is the only domestic violence organization in Bucks County. Approaching their 40th year, they provide comprehensive free, private, and confidential service, support, education, outreach, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and their children and the community. A Woman’s Place is committed to the empowerment of women and to ending intimate and domestic violence for all—not just in times of crisis but throughout the rebuilding process.
“Domestic violence is not just a family issue. It’s a community issue, and our goal is to educate and change the cultural dynamic to build a community where lives can flourish in safety,” says Communications Manager Mike Hicks.
In Full Swing, a thrift shop benefitting A Woman’s Place, is one of the finest examples of community partnership. Newly established in the heart of the borough, its success is fully supported by the generosity of volunteers, donors, and customers.
“The organization is about more than temporarily helping someone,” says Executive Director Ifeoma U. Aduba (Ify), “It’s about helping them grow into living a more sustainable life. It’s important to value each individual life and recognize that when bad things happen, you’ve built a culture in the community ready to respond. If we succeed at what we’re doing, the community will hold each other up and our job will be done."
