Moxie House Team
Deb Brandt: Creative Director and Owner
Returning home to Lancaster in 2000 after launching her career in New York City’s luxury goods industry—including working as an Art Director at Ralph Lauren Fragrances and then as the Creative Director at Parfum Givenchy—Deb has poured her energy and passion into celebrating Lancaster’s rapidly evolving downtown. With a degree in Communication Design from Kutztown University, Deb’s tenacity has always driven her above and beyond the expected. Yet her strong sense of home and love for community ultimately led her to put that tenacity to work in the region where her roots run deep.
Under Deb’s creative direction, Fig—a hyper-local print, web, and social media presence—has offered both voice and vision for the City’s revitalization over the past seven years. In addition, Deb and her team have packaged Fig for other communities, including West Chester, Kennett Square, Bethlehem, Doylestown and Columbia, South Carolina.
“I love making a difference in my hometown," says Deb. "But I also love discovering the soul and heartbeat of other local communities."
While sharing her fresh eye with vibrant urban areas, Deb has also brought unexpected and effective communication to small and mid-sized local businesses through her Moxie House design firm, helping entrepreneurs like herself achieve their goals. With a career path that has come full circle to a place of purpose and invigorating professional challenge, this energetic, confident, and—above all—optimistic powerhouse is living her dream each day. Seeing the world through Fig-colored glasses, Deb’s mission is to create a sense of a place that everyone can feel proud of and rally around, ultimately changing the way people view a city—for good.
Krista Sherkey: Managing Editor
"I am so excited and proud to be the Managing Editor of Fig® Doylestown." says Krista. As a Doylestown native, Krista is happy to share her expertise and experience with the community that she loves.
For the last six years, as the president and founder of Streamline6 Communications, Krista's team has been helping business owners build their brands, focus their creativity, and sustain their relationships with clients through strategic communications, marketing, and innovative problem solving. She truly believe in collaborations that are efficient and effective because of faster and simpler working methods. She is bringing that force, that energy, that passion to Fig® Doylestown.
Adam Payne: Marketing & Advertising
Adam is the Director of Business Development at Streamline6 Communications where he supports the team internally with marketing and branding for their agency. In addition to this role, Adam is the sales liaison for Fig® Doylestown and runs Fig® Doylestown’s Instagram account. Adam enjoys wearing many hats and is constantly pushing himself and the business in new and exciting directions. Adam is currently an active member on the Board of Directors for the Doylestown Business & Community Alliance, as well as the Marketing Board of Directors with the Discover Doylestown Committee. Prior to joining the Streamline6 family, Adam worked with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries LTD. where he gained experience in the distribution and logistics sector as well as sales, marketing, and R&D. Adam graduated from Delaware Valley College in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
Outside of the office Adam enjoys the outdoors, being active in the local communities, playing guitar, and collecting vintage items and accessories. Adam has been a lifelong musician and has performed all over the country. His favorite places that he’s performed? Carnegie Hall and St. John the Devine Cathedral, two of the most incredible performance spaces in the world. While not working, and sometime while he is, he can be found listening to and playing music.
Mike Emmett: Marketing & Advertising
Mike brings more than 30 years’ experience in customer service, sales, and marketing to Fig® Doylestown to serve business owners. Mike is closely involved in the community through memberships and volunteer efforts at Garden Club of America, Sierra Club, World Wildlife Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity.
A lifelong native of Bucks County, Mike has been married to his high school sweetheart, Lauren, for 35 years. They have two children: Krista Emmett-Sherkey, Managing Editor of Fig® Doylestown and Matthew Emmett, MD/PhD University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and one grandson named Saxby. In his free time, Mike enjoys gardening, birdwatching, golfing, cooking, and playing with his grandson.
Jenna Bozzi: Marketing & Advertising
Jenna prides herself on a pragmatic approach to life and work. Unflappable under even the most stressful of conditions, she loves meeting challenges and quandaries head on, and collaboratively coming up with creative solutions. By trade she's a "PR girl" but holistically, she's a communicator and people person who's not just waiting for her turn to talk.
Graduating with a B.A. in Public Communication from American University in Washington, D.C., it was during her studies that she realized politics (with its rigidity and seriousness) was not where her passions lie. Instead, she decided to pursue work in an agency setting where there would be more creative opportunities and risk-taking. While she grew to love D.C., her heart has always been in Philadelphia and she's happy to be back in the area.
A study of contradictions, Jenna loves sports, fashion, and politics in equal measures. She spends her free time playing field hockey, picking fights about the Sixers and their future ascent to greatness, expanding her shoe collection, hanging out with her Lhasa-poo, Chloe, and educating her office about the newest Drake or Kendrick Lamar album.
Amy Hynes: Product Manager
Most who know Amy agree that she is happiest with a cup of coffee and a project at her fingertips- the more projects the better! If she is not dealing with the deadlines and the customer relations for "all things FIG", she is happily figuring out how to digitally make life a little easier and smoother in her scope of vision.
Born and raised in Lititz, PA, she ventured into nature for nine years in the Pocono Mountains of PA where her appreciation for local, sustainable living began to take shape along with a BA in English Literature at East Stroudsburg University and a desire for ferreting out rare books and forgotten libraries.
Relocating back to the Lititz + Lancaster County, PA area was a natural move in order to jumpstart her career in publication and management. With over 17 years of experience in local marketing and her love for the immediate culture around her, her heart of community is placed into everything on her to-do list! "I so enjoy this team and the warmth that comes from unifying businesses and the community at such an intimate level," says Amy. Agreed.
Jena Miller: Art Director
A trendspotter with an eye for what’s hot and what’s not, Jena Miller is always on the cutting edge of the next big thing. Making fabulous sweeping statements like “gold is the new silver,” Jena understands the trends percolating in the hallowed halls of fashion will ultimately funnel into all areas of everyday life.
Graduating with honors and distinction from Kutztown University with a BFA in Communication Design, Jena is a talented designer and marketer who develops strategy, creates designs, and crafts messages. With a solid work ethic and an inner drive for excellence, Jena shares her visionary perspective with clients in a way that keeps them in step with what’s coming next, while staying true to their core mission.
“I work with a lot of great businesses,” says Jena. “I love brainstorming and helping them discover their true brand.”
On those rare occasions when she comes up for air, Jena enjoys the walkability of downtown Lancaster as she indulges in the simple pleasures local eating and shopping.
Shani Tucker: Designer
Once a self-proclaimed Nerd Supreme, Shani Tucker has come into her own in an era that appreciates bespectacled smart girls. Born in Naples, Italy and ultimately raised in Pennsylvania, Shani has a rich understanding both of ancient cultures abroad as well as charming folk cultures a little closer to home.
Through her Communication Design studies at alma mater Kutztown University, Shani says, “I learned about the craft and art of good typesetting. And I learned how to achieve daunting goals and complete intimidating volumes of work.”
In the process, she also discovered a path that married her longtime love of words and images. Launching her career at Moxie House as a can-do intern in the summer of 2010, Shani demonstrated her design prowess by earning the Karen L. Anderson award for excellence in Graphic Design.
Since taking on a full-time role as a Designer at Moxie House in May 2011, Shani spends her work days branding, brainstorming, illustrating, designing, and word-smithing—and of course, immersing herself in all things Fig.
In her free time, Shani can be found swing dancing, trolling vintage shops for excellent finds, and admiring the great American landscape.
Josh Seibert: Designer
For Josh Seibert, creative inspiration is found in everything he sees. From the threads of his shirt, to video game characters, store windows, and pop songs, Josh has a profound appreciation for the person who took an idea and made it real. It’s why he loves being a designer—he gets to share his creativity with the world.
With a degree from Kutztown University in Communications Design and a concentration in Graphic and Advertising Design, Josh not only joins the team with a passion for beautiful communications, but also an eye for photography, a penchant for technology, and a whole-hearted love for the color grey.
“I enjoy telling stories and defining experiences through visual communication,” says Josh. “Every store, restaurant, and small business has a voice and an image—some just need help finding theirs. That’s why I love working at Moxie House and designing Fig® Magazine. Plus, the team of creative and energetic people I work with are the best in town.”
When he’s not in the studio whipping up a new logo or creating the pages of Fig®, Josh enjoys surfing design blogs (and sometimes even writing them!), relaxing with friends over a nice glass of wine (or two), and decorating his new Downtown Lancaster apartment.
Theresa Yerger: Communications
Theresa Yerger’s infectious enthusiasm coupled with her razor-sharp savvy make her the perfect communications manager for Fig. An award-winning PR professional with a degree from Temple University in Strategic and Organizational Communications, Theresa brings a wealth of public relations and communications knowledge with a solid focus on social media.
As she puts her passion for innovative and integrated communications to work, Theresa is eager to champion all that is fresh, fashionable, and flavorful about Fig’s great small cities and towns. In her role as communications manager, Theresa is responsible for overseeing the social media accounts of all Fig channels, collaborating with bloggers on website content, and keeping up with local events and happenings.
In addition to growing Fig’s presence on the streets and bringing that conversation to social media, Theresa is excited to showcase the work of her fellow Fig team members.
“They are so good at what they do, and I love tapping into that creative energy and process here at Fig,” says Theresa. “I’m thrilled to take my PR skills and celebrate all that they’re doing.”
Nicole Patterson: Assistant to the Publisher
With a full cup of neon-colored pens, a freshly-pressed Coco Chanel-inspired business suit, and a collection of silk neck scarves planned for the next week, Nicole Patterson is ready to hit Moxie House's studio floor running. (And doing it in a fabulous pair of stiletto boots, we might add.) We're thrilled to have her join us as our first Assistant to the Publisher—keeping up with Fig's owner and creator Deborah Brandt, which is no small (or slow) task. Join us as we toast to our newest team member with two of her favorite things—a Diet Coke and a forkful of Jim's Famous New York Cheesecake from The Stockyard Inn.
Nicole Patterson moved to Lancaster in 2006 after graduating from Elizabethtown College with a BA in English Professional Writing and Literature and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. She has eight years of experience as a writer and editor. In addition to her background in publishing and advertising, she also brings more than thirteen years of retail sales and customer service expertise to Fig and Moxie House.
“I am thrilled to be a part of a socially-responsible team of professionals who work together for the benefit of the individual reader, the small business owner, and the community at large. Fig emphasizes what is unique and good in all of us; it seeks the kind of beauty and detail that is tucked inside imagination—through a standard of excellence in unparalleled design (aesthetic elegance) and in focused and dynamic collective planning for the future of your city. The Fig product is, in a deep sense, shifting perspectives and creating harmony and cooperation within communities,“ she says. “It’s the opposite of self-interest, and that altruistic initiative—social enterprise—is what will continue its success.“
Nicole believes that courage and kindness can change the world. In her spare time she enjoys learning the secrets of a meaningful life from the residents at Moravian Manor in Lititz—where she volunteers. Nicole is an avid letter writer and can be found scouring the city in search of more stationery. When she’s not writing, she loves to read books about evolutionary psychology, literary and gender theory, and existentialism. She hopes to one day publish a book of essays—and become Deb’s right-hand woman.
Michael Miville: Photographer
Michael Miville has an eye for creativity that transforms the understated into stunning. As photographer at Fig®, he combines unique settings, interesting perspectives and an innovative light-shaping process to reveal the authentic personality of a brand.
“I love getting to know the business owners, chefs and innovators that make a Fig® city incredible. I love learning about the details of their story that makes them unique and establishing that sense of connection for readers through my photographs.”
Michael has honed his photography skills by experimenting with light, hanging out of trees, telling corny jokes and putting plates of food in strange places to capture energetic and candid photos. He has worked in print advertising for the past 15 years and owned a photography business for the past 10 years.
After attending Antonelli Institute of Design and Photography in Philadelphia, Michael spent time in West Chester and now resides in downtown Lancaster. He’s a self-professed sports-junkie with an unhealthy obsession for Penn State football. He can be found exploring thriving downtowns in search of strong coffee, bacon and local craft beers; or at home in Lancaster appeasing his family’s demands to take more photos of their cat, Steve Martin.
Marie Kojitani: Style Director
With experience in styling editorials, commercials, TV shows, and e-commerce products, Marie will bring her keen eye for detail and emerging trends to the small businesses of Lancaster. From Illinois to Lancaster, New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and beyond, Marie Kojitani's travels and professional experience extend from coast to coast. After working in New York City as a Freelance Stylist for publications like Real Simple, Russian Harper’s Bazaar, Time Style & Design, and OK!, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to work for Zappos.com as a Style Editor and Creative Production Manager. But Hollywood was calling, and Marie relocated to Los Angeles where she worked for various companies (and even a few celebrities!) as a Freelance Stylist.
With a degree from Manhattan's Fashion Institute of Technology in Fashion Merchandising Management, Marie knows good style. As Moxie House’s new Style Director, she’ll put her talents to good use making sure each photo we snap dazzles like the New York City skyline. Marie shares, “I’ve had great experience in wardrobe styling and producing photo shoots, and I can’t wait to use these skills to represent small businesses in their best fashion.”
When she’s not at work, you might find this Fig® Fashionista catching up on her (not so) guilty pleasures: celebrity gossip, reality TV, and spending time with her cat, Glen Coco. If she’s nowhere to be found, she might be sneaking away to the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica, her favorite travel destination—but as this Lancaster native knows, there's no place like home.
